Software Development Engineer - Colchester Area - Salary Negotiable

This company is one of the world's leading suppliers of advanced integrated ship control systems; including alarm and monitoring, automation, platform management, audio and video distribution and navigation, into both new build and retro-fit markets.Projects include working on Luxury Yachts, Commercial Ships, Naval Platforms and Special Purpose Craft.

The company are looking to recruit a Development Engineer with excellent programming skills to work as part of the development team on existing and future projects. You will programme software used in custom HMIs, both high and low level control, embedded monitoring, networking, audio and video distribution, intelligent data management, third-party interfaces and system integration.

Essentials
A degree in Engineering, Physics, Computing, Maths or equivalent
Significant previous experience in programming distributed real-time systems
Object Orientated programmer, with a proven track record, preferably in C++.
Ability to design, build and test software modules that meet customer requirements.

Desirables
Embedded programming experience.
Linux or Windows development.
Network programming e.g. sockets, UDP and TCP.
Distributed database programming.
Multi-threaded programming.
Experience with one or more GUI frameworks e.g. MFC, Qt.
Hardware rendering with OpenGL/DirectX.
Understanding of Operating Systems e.g. XP Embedded, Linux, Embedded Linux.
Ability to write technical specifications and documentation.
